Can I help you? I teach, write and talk about food, farming and social change, and I’m available for hire. Here are some of the things I can offer. For more detail see the Projects page and my Linked In profile.
Writing, editing and communications:
I have a science degree and I’ve been an abstractor, a freelance copy-editor and an information officer for many years, specializing in agriculture for both technical audiences and the public. Apart from editing and proof-reading, I’m good at turning rambling essays into engaging text that tells the reader what they really want to know. I also enjoy talking to people who have a message to convey and helping them find the words that will get it across to their audience.
Besides writing articles for the press, I can turn my hand to those regular editing jobs that just need to get done, and I can work with a translator on bilingual projects. Contact me if you need help with:
- content for websites, including blog posts and articles
- text for leaflets
- press releases and newsletters
- technical editing.
I am an experienced organizer of events. I’ve planned conferences, chaired meetings, devised workshops, hosted community meals, led retreats and set up groups. I love to hold a safe and creative space where everyone’s voice is heard and the notes get written up.
I’m a qualified teacher and I’ve worked as an education officer and a private tutor. I lead farm visits, train countryside staff in hosting educational visits, design and lead classroom workshops, and produce educational materials.
This is a free offer for food activists.
HOW I WORK
Working remotely from Aberystwyth, I am happy to take on jobs of anything from a few hours to a bigger project. I can also take on a regular commitment, and I can travel to your office if that makes sense. I charge £25-50 an hour, depending on the work, and the customer, or £180-300/day. Contact me for a free half-hour consultation now, on jane [at] foodsociety.wales or call 07929 857173.
“As a consulting author for one of our publications, Jane was a pleasure to work with and offered incredible insight into issues surrounding the food system when we were unsure of where to start. Her balanced, realistic, and well-informed approach meant that we were clear on the key problem areas but were left feeling empowered and motivated to do something to help solve them. Professional throughout, Jane set the optimistic and inspiring tone for the book, and changed the way we viewed food consumption.”
